Mount Riley Seventeen Valley Chardonnay

Mount Riley Seventeen Valley Chardonnay 2009

Michael Cooper's Buyers Guide to New Zealand Wines 2012

The 2009 vintage (*****) is the best yet.  Hand-picked, fermented with indigenous yeasts in new and seasoned French oak barrels.  Fresh, full-bodied and finely textured, it is slightly creamy and toasty, with sweet-fruit delights, tropical-fruit flavours, gentle acidity, and excellent complexity and richness.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, 91+

Barrel fermented in new and seasoned barrels using indigenous yeast, the 2009 17 Valley Chardonnay displays a moderate intensity of stone fruit, meal and cream aromas with a whiff of sulphide/struck match character.  Crisp, medium bodied and concentrated, it has a suggestion of silkiness coating the mouth and a long creamy finish.  Delicious now, it is likely to open more developing over the next 1-3 years and drinking to 2015+.

Smoky oak on the nose. Ripe stone-fruit is complemented by tropical fruits, nuts and a touch of flint. There's really nice mouth feel too; creamy textured yet with really firm bracing acidity. Excellent depth of flavour on the palate.

5 Stars Winestate, July/August Issue 2010

Classy, concentrated, fully barrel-fermented style.  Rich bouquet, with lovely depth of ripe, peachy, slightly appley and spicy flavours, a distinct hint of butterscotch, and notable complexity and harmony.  Best yet of this label.
