Mount Riley Pinot Gris 2010

Listener Magazine Saturday 6/11/10 4 Stars

Deliciously scented, full-bodied and smooth, with fresh, pure, pear and spice flavours and a slightly oily richness.  A four-star wine at a three-star price.

The Press 12 January 2011

This dry, grunty pinot gris has a mid-gold colour, a powerful apple-pear aroma and a nectarine-apricot flavour that grows more robust, and picks up a little spice and citrus, in a lingering aftertaste.

Winestate Magazine March/April 2010 5 Stars

Medium-dry style with excellent varietal character and depth of pear and spice flavours. Floral, fresh and sweet-fruited, with lovely texture, weight and length. Top buy.

The NZ Herald, 9 June 2010 "Discriminating Choices" Jo Burzynska

Bright notes of apple and pear mingle with floral nuances and undertones of cinnamon and nutmeg.

The Press, Wednesday 26th May "Good and grunty" Brian Prebble

This family-owned winery urges us to enjoy its impressive Pinot Gris with friends.  We did - and with whitebait fritters.  It was a delightful mix, with the wine - apple-pear nose, stone fruit taste and a spicy finish, backed by a grunty 14 per cent alcohol - undoubtedly the star of the show.

Wine NZ Magazine - Pinot Gris Short List and Outstanding Value for Money

We love it when we find a really excellent wine for not a lot of money.  And that is just what this Mount Riley Pinot Gris 2008 is!  Fresh apple aromas abound on the nose and the palate displays refined, pure, elegant fruit characters, with well-defined melon and good, ripe lemon flavours too.  It shows a tasty hint of nut as well, layered over a nicely concentrated palate.  This is a very well balanced wine that's just lovely drinking and a great buy at only $18RRP.

The International Wine & Spirit Competition London 2008, Best in Class

Watery pale straw lemon colour. Hint of glace fruits on the nose, also grainy pear, white mushroom and jasmine. The palate is off dry, lovely acidity balancing the sweetness and keeping an edge. Medium to full bodied without heavy fat, great finish. This wine has wonderful potential. This is a style that needs very careful winemaking to achieve such tightrope balance. Really well done.
