Winemaking: Our Limited Release Syrah was made from a selection of our best Syrah grapes in the 2009 vintage. The grapes that make up this wine were grown in Mount Riley's premium 17 Valley Vineyard in the south of the Marlborough's Wairau Valley. This site is exposed to intense sunshine and the warm North Westerly winds pool in this small valley creating a veritable 'heat trap'.
The fruit was harvested at extremely low yields and was hand-picked and co-fermented with Viognier grapes. The fermentation was carried out in small parcels using indigenous yeasts then the wine was aged for 15 months in predominantly French oak barriques.
Colour: Inky purple hues.
Bouquet: A perfumed complex bouquet with dark fruits, white pepper and floral aromas complemented by earthy and spicy notes.
Palate: Dark fruits and well structured but fine tannins are supported by lovely concentration, fruit sweetness and a long, lingering finish.
Drink: This wine is drinking well now until 2015. Match with red meat or pasta dishes.
